A Real Mannequin Challenge, and Yahoo Finance is in trouble.

Your weekly dose of digital, social, and content marketing news. This week…

1 A real Mannequin Challenge

As with all online trends, the Mannequin Challenge took over the internet then died a silent death. But one Australia-based nonprofit just made one of the most powerful challenge videos you need to see. Parkinson’s New South Wales, an organisation that brings support and resources to people living with Parkinson’s disease, made a confronting Mannequin Challenge video:

2 It’s a game of inches

As a content marketing agency, we know the value of checking and double-checking every word before hitting publish — especially when you’re publishing from your phone and the letters are all perilously close together. But not everyone seems to have gotten that memo… Just when we thought The Washington Post Express won the award for the biggest mess-up of the month (ouch), Yahoo came crashing in:

3 2017 = the year of video

We’ll be peering into our crystal ball next week as we publish our predictions for content marketing in 2017, but here’s quick spoiler: Video is set to thrive. According to Hubspot, 78% of people watch videos online every week, and 55% watch videos online every day. If you don’t already have a video marketing strategy in place for your website and social media, you’re missing a tremendous opportunity to reach and engage with your audience.

4 The power of the micro micro influencer

Just like video, influencer marketing is hot. But what about REAL real people? Goodnessknows, a snack brand from Mars (the company, not the planet) asked a group of non-actors to star in its “Try a Little Goodness” campaign. And guess what? Real people are funny – and kind of adorable too. Influence can be bought, but you can’t put a price on authenticity.

5 Being a nice guy does pay

While it’s a running gag to make the funniest delivery request, this restaurant’s response will warm your heart. Feeley’s Fish and Chip Shop in Belfast, Northern Ireland received an interesting order from a sick customer begging for cold and flu tablets. The restaurant delivered and the customer’s thank-you post went viral, upon which the shop received many commenters writing that they’ll be ordering from the local joint in the near future. Good customer service = everything.
